The Rockley still has quite a fabled history, but has just very recently been restored and should be operational at West Indies Rum Distillery, yet it’s much too soon for us to taste anything produced by that still. This release then was made to resemble what came out of the Rockley still in the 1800’s.
Nose: Quite a strong burst of honey and vanilla at first. Quite a briny and mineral note, like licking olive oil from a rock…but less coarse. There’s a fruity side as well, mainly mango and papaya and some fusil oils tucked away in there.

Palate: Quite a hot arrival at first. It’s interesting, with fusil oils, olives, honey and a bit of a metallic tinge.
Finish: A short to medium finish where the metallic notes remains. Some vanilla and just a hint as almond in there too.
Comments: On a recent episode of The Rumcast, there was a discussion about interesting rum versus good rum. This falls firmly into the “interesting” category. I’m glad I got to taste it, but I won’t be needing a full bottle.
