The Tricentenaire is an assemblage of different rums that were purchased by the distillery, but not necessarily distilled by them. 11 different rums aged between 6 and 20 years old were married in large French oak barrels, to be bottled at 43.9% ABV.
Nose: Peaches, and lots of them! There’s also pear and green grapes, accompanied by barrel notes like vanilla and oak. There’s also a hint of furniture polish.
Palate: A very sweet arrival which is quickly balanced out by some sourness. Green grapes and apples, candied lemon. There’s a bit of rancio here as well, definitely showing its age.
Finish: Short to medium long with some fruit bubblegum, oak and a slight soapyness.
Comments: It’s a very fruit forward rum, almost to a fault. The age is apparent here, but it’s one that takes time to open up and relax with, not to entice you with a barrage of different flavors.
Score: 84/100
