Last year, Belgian importer The Nectar bottled this blend of 7 year old T.D.L and 5 year old Worthy Park. The blend was finished in a PX cask and bottled at a hefty 70% ABV.
Nose: It’s quite a dark dram, and smells the like. Cola, cherry pits and a heavy, almost burnt caramel. Hints of cough syrup and muscovado sugar. With a bit of time, there’s ever so slight traces of the Worthy Park with some banana and lime rind. The nose feels quite closed, even when given ample time and water.
Palate: Dark chocolate, oak, cherries and caramel are the top notes here. With a lot of patience, some banana and white tea come through. The alcohol is quite restrained considering its 70%.
Finish: Remarably short with strawberry jam and again the dark chocolate. The alcohol does show here with a bit of burn at the back of the throat, which is something I don’t get very often.
Comments: The TDL mostly overpowered the Worthy Park here, and the PX finish didn’t help. It gets marginally better with time and water, but I get the feeling more could be done here.
Score: 83/100
